6 Galentine's Day Plans to Make With Your BFFs

By Elise Nelson on February 8, 2018

Valentine’s Day is fast approaching. That can only mean one thing—Galentine’s Day is almost here! Not sure what this means? Here’s some background.

Galentine’s Day started on “Parks and Recreation.” As Amy Poehler’s character, Leslie Knope, said, “it’s only the best day of the year.” Galentine’s Day occurs every Feb. 13. It’s open to any and all females, whether they’re single or in a relationship.

Sounds fun, right? Get the girls together and celebrate with these six Galentine’s Day plans.

1. Go on a brunch date

Did someone say “mimosas”?

Start your Galentine’s Day off right with delicious food and endless rounds of champagne-infused orange juice. Consult with your gals to find the best brunch restaurant in the area—apps like OpenTable and Urbanspoon are also useful for this. Check out the menu first and be sure there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

If you’re the hostess type (a.k.a. if you’re basically Monica Geller), you can also plan a brunch at your place! Make it as intricate as you’d like. Send out Galentine’s Day-themed invitations, decorate the dining room, and build a heart-shaped menu.

Just don’t forget the mimosas.

2. Spend the day at a spa

Treat yo’self to a Galentine’s Day spa getaway.

Massages, mud wraps, cucumber face masks, and mani-pedis will make you feel like a brand-new woman. Many spas typically offer Galentine’s Day package deals for groups. The best way to find deals is to check out Groupon.

If you’d rather keep things low-key, you can turn your own home into a spa. First, hit up your local beauty store with your gals. To make things interesting, everyone should have 15 minutes to buy whatever they want for their “spa treatment”—face mask tubes, nail polish, scented lotion, etc. You should also invest in a bunch of soft robes, hair towels, and slippers.

When you arrive at your make-shift spa, throw some cucumbers in a pitcher of cool water and serve some tall glasses. Who doesn’t feel fancy drinking cucumber water? Then spend the afternoon pampering yourselves. This way, everyone spends as much money as they choose, and you all get customized spa treatments.

3. Host a chick-flick movie night

Staying in for the night is okay, too. Pajamas, wine, and popcorn are a must for this one.

Grab your top three (or five… or ten) favorite chick flicks and get ready to binge-watch. Or maybe your squad is more into action films—that works too. Check out these top movies to watch on Galentine’s Day.

Turn your cinema event into a sleepover for added fun. Order a pizza and rate how cute the delivery guy is (thanks for the idea, “Gilmore Girls”). Snack shamelessly, shoot around some gossip, and ad lib commentary to your movies.

4. Organize a bar-hopping trip

The night is all about you and your girls! Everyone should meet at one house before the trip begins to get ready together. Dress to the nines (you might want to plan some outfit choices) and take cute photos together before departing. Or, you can roll up to the bar in sweatpants—no one is judging.

In order for a bar crawl to be successful, you need a game plan. Where will you go first? How long will you spend at each bar? Are the bars in your route walking distance from each other? Will you need to grab an Uber or Lyft? Discuss all these elements before you head out.

Be sure that everyone stays together all night. Drink responsibly and never drive under the influence of alcohol.

5. Go on a shopping spree

The sky is the limit for how much you buy! …Except not really. Give yourself a spending limit to avoid credit debt.

Spend Galentine’s Day telling your friends how great they look in that dress they’re trying on. Be each other’s fashion consultants. No matter what, though, make a goal to buy at least one set of matching souvenirs by the end of the day—you’ll want to remember it for as long as possible.

6. Schedule a Skype date with long-distance BFFs

Your far-away friends need some love too! Sometimes the best way to spend Galentine’s Day is by catching up with old pals on a three-hour-long Skype call.

You can even make most of these plans work over Skype! Cook some brunch in your respective homes and virtually eat together. Pick your favorite online store and start browsing. Send each other screenshots of the cutest clothes you find.

Movie nights are easy to accomplish, even in long-distance friendships. Put on a face mask, get into your pajamas, eat copious amounts of chocolate, and pour a glass of wine.  Log into Rabbit or Watch2Gether—these sites allow you to watch videos and listen to music with someone virtually. You can talk in a chat room while your movie is playing. It’s like your friend is right there next to you!

How will you spend Galentine’s Day this year?
